Welcome to my website! Here you will find information about the 4th Legislative District, state government and me.

My focus in Olympia is on limiting government expansion into our lives, while increasing opportunity and liberty across the state. I am also committed to protecting people's rights, property, and freedoms.

I look forward to working across the aisle on common causes, as I bring a willingness to work with anyone who wants to make the 4th District and the state of Washington a better place to live, work, do business and raise a family.

As the Spokane County Treasurer, I demonstrated a strong work ethic and fiscal responsibility. Under my management the office took on additional responsibilities, but we were able to come under budget with a smaller workforce. I bring those work principles and fiscal accountability to the Legislature.

I encourage you to be engaged in the legislative process. Your questions, concerns and comments help me stay informed.

Thank you for the honor and privilege of serving you.

My Priorities

Strengthening communities by making public safety a priority

The majority party passed police reforms in 2021 after the Defund the Police movement had gained traction across the country. However, the reforms made our communities less safe. Law enforcement across the state indicated the new laws tied their hands. The standards for arrests and pursuits were unrealistic. Republicans played a key part in providing votes to address the concerns of law enforcement and prioritize public safety in our communities. Reinstating the vehicular pursuit law remains a priority for House Republicans.

Providing tax relief and making life more affordable

Our state has record amounts of taxpayer dollars, while many in Washington are working through economic hardships. Despite the cost of living increasing - real estate, the price of fuel, good and services - the majority party did not provide any tax relief to address living affordability. My colleagues and I advocated for property tax relief, sales tax relief and more.

Holding state government accountable and enacting emergency powers reform

With the Legislature operating virtually the last two sessions, it has contributed to a lack of transparency and accountability in our state government. I believe lawmakers need to be more involved in the decision-making process during a state of emergency. Our state agencies must also demonstrate their ability to operate efficiently and effectively and be held accountable for not meeting proper standards of service.

Empowering parents by providing transparency and flexibility to help their children succeed

It is essential we have transparency in our K-12 education system. I am the prime-sponsor of House Bill 1977, where all training curriculum and materials are not exempt from public disclosure and must be available for copying or disclosure. The pandemic has also shown us that school choices and options are important. For that reason I introduced House Bill 1693, that would recognize May 1 as home-school day.
