Dear Friends and Neighbors,

On Wednesday, the Washington State Tax Structure Work Group begins their virtual Tax Town Halls across the state.

This is a great opportunity for you to speak up for tax relief. In February 2020, state tax collections were at a record high. They have remained resilient through the pandemic. It is time we consider giving some back to the taxpayers and working families of Washington state.

There are two sessions for our region tomorrow. Information and registration links below:

East Region | Legislative Districts: 3, 4, 6, 7, 9, 16
Wednesday, September 22, 2021
2:30 – 4:00 p.m. | Register here
6:30 – 8:00 p.m. | Register here

In May, the work group released six tax scenarios, including a couple that would implement a personal income tax. The tax scenarios will be presented during the tax town halls. Individual taxpayers and business owners are invited to share their opinions about the state's tax structure.

I urge you to participate if you can. It is critical to make your voice heard, especially when it comes to taxes. Keep in mind, the governor and majority Democrats have passed new tax increases over the last three years – including a new payroll tax and a new income tax on capital gains. Click here for a complete list of their recent tax increases.

Also included in the agenda is the:

  • Purpose and goals of the Tax Structure Work Group;
  • Background information on the current state tax structure; and
  • Interactive breakout sessions where you explore scenarios for changes to the state tax structure and share your feedback.

If you have questions you contact the workgroup at: info@taxworkgroup.org.
